Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Lakewood, NJ - George Lombard Jr. and Brendan Jones each had strong games at the plate, but the Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 6-3 on Friday night at ShoreTown Ballpark.
Kyle Carr was cruising along until the bottom of the fourth inning, when the BlueClaws exploded for six runs, sending 10 batters to the plate. Pierce Bennett lined a three-run triple to center to kick off the scoring, and came home on an RBI single by Jordan Dissin. Later in the inning, Keaton Anthony lined a two-run single to score Dissin and Trent Farquhar to open the lead to 6-0.
It was an uncharacteristic inning for Carr (1-8), who had allowed only five runs in his previous 36.0 innings pitched since July 19. Blane Abeyta and Sebastian Keane followed with 2.0 scoreless innings each out of the bullpen to hold the BlueClaws after that frame.
The Renegades struggled to break through against Luke Russo (3-2), but finally got on the board against Trey Dillard in the top of the seventh. Omar Martinez walked to lead off the frame and advanced to second on a groundout by Jackson Castillo. Brendan Jones brought him home with a single to cut the deficit to 6-1.
Jones had another strong game at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and a walk.
Hudson Valley showed some life in the late innings, putting runners on first and second with one out in the eighth against Jaydenn Estanista but could not score. In the top of the ninth, George Lombard Jr. ripped a two-out, two-run double to left to narrow the gap down to 6-3.
Lombard continued his strong run of hitting, finishing 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. It was his fourth straight multi-hit game and his fifth straight game with an extra-base hit.
The Renegades and BlueClaws continue their series on Friday night at ShoreTown Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning on the Renegades Baseball Network at 6:45. RHP Baron Stuart (8-4, 3.60) gets the start for the Renegades, while the BlueClaws have not announced a starter.
Renegades Record:
66-57, 33-25
