Winston-Salem Dash News Release
ZEBULON, N.C. - Zach Remillard drove in a career-high five runs on Friday night, and the Dash bullpen combined to post four scoreless innings as Winston-Salem edged Carolina 7-4 at Five County Stadium. With the win, Winston-Salem maintains sole possession of first place in the Southern Division, leading the Buies Creek Astros by a half-game.
Down 2-0 in the fourth inning, Remillard helped kick-start the Dash's (34-27) comeback efforts against Mudcats starter Braden Webb (3-5). After a leadoff walk to Luis Basabe and a double by Micker Adolfo, Remillard stroked an RBI single to center to make it a 2-1 contest. Later in the frame, Yeyson Yrizarri tied up the game with an RBI double down the right-field line.
After the Mudcats (29-31) plated an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth against Tanner Banks (5-2) to regain the lead, Winston-Salem seized the advantage for good. With two on and one out, Conor Harber replaced Webb and proceeded to give up an RBI single to Blake Rutherford that knotted the contest at three.
Adolfo then walked to load the bases, setting the stage for Remillard. On a 3-2 pitch from Harber, the former Coastal Carolina star smacked Winston-Salem's first grand slam of the season off the scoreboard in left-center, putting the Dash ahead 7-3. Overall, Remillard finished the night 3-for-4 with five RBIs. He's now hit three homers in the month of June, the most of any player on the ballclub.
Banks would allow his final run of the night in the fifth, but the southpaw picked up the win by tossing five frames and allowing six hits and four runs (two earned). Banks is now 5-0 with a 1.91 ERA over his last five starts.
Following the fifth inning, Banks gave way to Mike Morrison, who stranded three runs across his two scoreless innings of work. Zach Thompson followed with a perfect eighth, upping his scoreless streak to 10 innings over his last five outings.
Despite putting two runners on, Matt Foster locked down his fifth save of the year by striking out the side in the ninth, blowing a fastball by Tucker Neuhaus to end the game.
The #DashToThePostseason continues on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the second game of a three-game set against Carolina at Five County Stadium. The Dash will send right-hander Dylan Cease (7-2, 2.81 ERA) to the bump against Mudcats right-hander Victor Diaz (2-3, 4.15 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 4:45 p.m., and fans can catch all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.
The promotional slate for Winston-Salem's upcoming homestand includes a Free Food Tuesday, a Pups in the Park outing on Wednesday, a Lowes Foods Thirsty Thursday, Hometown Heroes USA Night and postgame fireworks on Friday, a Chick-fil-A Four Pack Night on Saturday and a Father's Day Sunday.
