Seattle Reign FC News Release
SEATTLE (July 22, 2015) - Seattle Reign FC announced today that the club has signed goalkeeper Caroline Stanley. Per team and league policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Stanley will provide roster depth for Reign FC while goalkeeper Hope Solo recovers from an injury sustained with the U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT) during the 2015 Women's World Cup in Canada.
The World Cup champion sustained a knee injury during the tournament and is being evaluated on a game-by-game basis to assess her fitness.
"My focus right now is to get healthy so that I can return to the field for Reign FC," Solo said. "I am looking forward to rejoining my teammates and helping them push for an NWSL championship in this second half of the season."
Stanley, 22, is a 2014 graduate from the University of Southern California where she played three seasons with the Trojans after transferring from Missouri after her freshman season. In her senior season with USC she earned Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week honors twice to help lead the team to the first round of the 2014 NCAA tournament.
"Laura [Harvey], Sam [Laity] and Ben [Dragavon] are great. The dynamic is perfect," Stanley said. "It's huge to mesh well with your goalkeeper coach. Ben has broken down so much of my game and has taught me an overwhelming amount about movement and technique."
The Kansas City, Mo. native has been with Reign FC since March when she joined preseason training camp as a discovery player. Stanley has featured in two non-NWSL matches, including a 5-0 win over the Portland Pilots on March 28 and a 2-0 victory over the University of Washington on April 3.
"This team is so unique, and being one of the youngest everyone has really taken me in and helped me with the learning curve," Stanley added. "It's time for me to work even harder and strive to keep improving."
Stanley has been on Reign FC's full roster as an amateur call-up for the past nine NWSL matches while Hope Solo was with the USWNT for the World Cup.
