Reign Fall 3-2 In First Loss To Salmon Kings

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and the AHL Manchester Monarchs, fell to the Victoria Salmon Kings, 3-2, Sunday evening in front of 4,447 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Jon Rheault and Tim Kraus each netted a goal and Jeff Zatkoff blocked 37 of the 40 shots he faced in the loss.

In the second meeting of the season between the Ontario Reign (12-9-11, 26 points) and the Victoria Salmon Kings (13-9-11, 28 points), the Salmon Kings found the net first to take the early lead over the Reign. Right wing Wes Goldie, notched the only goal of the first period, at 3:45, to put the Salmon Kings ahead going into the second period, 1-0.

Three goals found their way to the scoreboard in the second stanza, with Ontario picking up their first goal of the night at 3:18, off the stick of right wing Jon Rheault. Rheault notched his fifth goal of the year as he shot the puck past Salmon Kings netminder Todd Ford to tie the game at one apiece. Right wing Maxime Boisclair and center Jon Francisco registered the assists on the play with Boisclair extending his assist streak to two games and Francisco picking up his 100th professional career point. Reign center Tim Kraus put the Reign ahead, 2-0, as he lit the lamp at 7:28 in the second, notching his fifth goal of the season. Left wings Todd Jackson and Chris Curran tallied the assists, extending Jackson's point streak to two games (1g, 1a). Victoria center Olivier Fillion brought the match to, 2-2, as he netted a power play goal for the Salmon Kings at 9:16 in the period, sending the teams into the third tied.

The clubs continued the back-and-forth battle nearly 16 minutes into the third period, until Victoria right wing Sean D. O'Connor tallied his fifth goal of the season pushing the Salmon Kings ahead 3-2. The Reign pulled Zatkoff from the net with 46 seconds remaining in the match for the extra attacker, but couldn't find the open opportunity to send the game into overtime. The teams ended the match with a final score Reign 2, Salmon Kings 3.
