Oklahoma City, Okla. - Central Hockey League President Brad Treliving announced today the creation of the Burton Trophy awarded annually to the CHL's top point producer.

The trophy is named in honor of Oklahoma City Blazers right-winger Joe Burton who is retiring after 11 consecutive seasons with the Blazers. Burton, the CHL's all-time leading scorer with 983 points owns or shares 19 single-game, individual and season scoring records. His tenure with the Blazers is the longest with one North American minor professional hockey franchise in the last 22-plus years.

Memphis RiverKings forward Don Parsons currently leads the CHL in scoring with 101 points (55-46-101). Todd Marcellus of the Tulsa Oilers is second in scoring with 92 points (39-53-92), while Travis Clayton of the Wichita Thunder is third with 90 (33-57-90).

"It gives me great pleasure to announce the re-naming of the CHL scoring champion trophy in honor of Joe Burton," said Treliving. "Joe has been not only been an elite player and competitor over the course of his CHL career but also one of the greatest ambassadors for our league and sport since his arrival in Oklahoma City. This award ensures that the significant contributions Joe Burton has made to both the Oklahoma City Blazers and the Central Hockey League will be recognized for years to come."
