Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Corpus Christi- Forward Kenny Goetz of the Corpus Christi Rayz is notorious for fighting his opponents on the ice. Now he's taking up the fight against cancer and other malignant diseases that plague many children in the Coastal Bend. In conjunction with Driscoll Children's Hospital and the Corpus Christi Rayz Hockey Organization, Goetz is launching a program called "Kenny's Kids" to raise money with all proceeds benefiting Driscoll's Hematology/Oncology department.
"It gives me great pleasure to give back to the community especially for a cause of this importance," said Goetz. "These kids look up to us, but more importantly we look up to them for their courage in the battle that they face each and everyday.
Goetz is also calling out the local community to help his cause. Driscoll Children's Hospital will be setting up a booth at both home games this week on Friday and Sunday in the main concourse giving out information and accepting donations. "Kenny's Kids" autographed T-shirts will also be available for a $25 dollar donation. During Sunday's home finale against Bossier-Shreveport, Goetz will present a check on the ice to a group of over 50 children in attendance from Driscoll.
The Hematology/Oncology department at Driscoll Children's Hospital provides holistic medical and surgical services for the treatment of cancer and blood disorders. Physicians, nurses, and social workers work directly with the patients, keeping their minds occupied by reading books, coloring, and playing board games while they endure therapy and procedures. There are 150 children within the department that are currently receiving treatment.
For more information or to make a donation to "Kenny's Kids", contact Dan Weiss at (361) 814-7825.
