(3/12/03) The Central Hockey League has announced that Michel Periard of the Laredo Bucks is the league's Most Outstanding Defenseman for the 2002-2003 season.

"On behalf of the Central Hockey League, congratulations to Michel Periard," says CHL President Brad Treliving. "Michel richly deserves this award for his performance all season long for the Laredo Bucks."

In 48 games with the Bucks, Periard has posted 17 goals and 35 assists for a total of 52 points. He is also +18. Periard is currently under contract with the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League. Periard returned to Laredo yesterday after his third stint this season with San Antonio of the American Hockey League. Periard has posted three goals and five assists in ten games with the Rampage. Periard returns to the Bucks' lineup tonight for Laredo's regular-season home finale against Fort Worth at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Game time is 7:30pm.

"We're all very happy and very proud of Michel," says Bucks Head Coach/Genera Manager Terry Ruskowski. "He deserves this honor for every aspect of his game, all season long. He's never had a slump, and he works hard. He's a great kid, and this shows that, if you work hard, good things will happen."

Periard scored a goal in the Southern Conference's 10-6 win over the Northern Conference in the CHL All-Star Game in Oklahoma City on January 23. Teammate Chris Grenville was the game's Most Valuable Player with four goals. The City of Laredo, the Bucks and the Laredo Entertainment Center will host the CHL All-Star Game in the 2004-2005 season.

Periard and the Bucks aim for their 40th win of the season tonight against Fort Worth. Game time is 7:30pm. Tickets are available at the Laredo Entertainment Center Box Office and all Ticketmaster ticket centers. For more information, call (956) 718-BUCKS or visit www.laredobucks.com.
