Reed, Herman Named 'Be True' Winners

BOISE, Idaho, March 8, 2012 - The Idaho Stampede, along with Commercial Tire, Cooper Tires and the Idaho Steelheads, have named Nick Reed (Weiser High School basketball coach) and Vonnie Herman (Melba High School track and field coach) as the week's "Be True to Your School" award winners. Coach Reed will be honored on-court at the Stampede game on March 23, while Herman will be honored on March 24.

Below are excerpts from their nominations.

"Coach Reed has made my love for basketball grow like crazy! He gives great pep talks and uses inspirational words from legendary coaches or athletes to get us pumped up. He helps me feel like I can always reach higher and always get better."

"Coach Herman cares about all of the athletes at Melba High School, not just the track kids. She is always positive and encourages us to be our best."

The "Be True to Your School" program allows local fans to nominate a deserving high school athletics coach for recognition. The winning coaches will be invited to a game at CenturyLink Arena to be honored and the athletics department at the winner's school will receive a $1,000 from Commercial Tire and Cooper Tires. In all, $20,000 will be donated to area schools during 2011-12.
