Redwolves Snap Blowfish Win Streak

FLORENCE, S.C.- For the third straight night the Columbia Blowfish faced off against the Florence RedWolves and for the first time the RedWolves came out on top. The RedWolves won 11-5 Friday night in Coastal Plain League play. The loss snapped the Blowfish six game win streak.

Louis Trivino started on the mound for the RedWolves and held the Blowfish offense at bay going seven innings giving up four runs, two earned, on six hits while striking out six. Trivino kept the Blowfish hitters off balance en route to securing the RedWolves first win against the Blowfish this season. Trivino was relieved by Derek Vaughn who went the final two innings for the RedWolves and giving up one run on one hit while striking out two.

Derek Beasley started on the mound for the Blowfish going five innings and giving up seven runs on nine hits while striking out just one. Joshua Knab relieved Beasley and went two innings giving up three runs on five hits while striking out 3. Casey Cooper pitched the eighth for the Blowfish giving up one run on one hit.

Todd Joyner went 2-4 with an RBI while Stuart Pound went 2-2 with a two run homerun. Tre-Von Johnson also hit an RBI double.

The Blowfish return to action tomorrow night at home against the Asheboro Copperheads in a crucial game in the first half of the CPL season. Tickets are available at www.blowfishbaseball.com.

The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
