Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, North Dakota - An offensive surge from the RedHawks' bats lead to a big 9-2 win over the Goldeyes on a warm and humid Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.
Fargo-Moorhead came out swinging as singles from Alec Olund, John Silviano, Leo Pina, Manny Boscan and Sam Dexter as well as a triple from Scott Schreiber quickly made it a 5-0 ballgame on just 23 pitches from Winnipeg's starting pitching in the bottom of the first inning. The RedHawks added another in the bottom of the fourth as Silviano doubled to center field and scored Nick Novak to extend the lead to six runs.
Winnipeg scored their first run in the top of the fifth inning as they pieced together a couple of base hits and a couple stolen bases to score off a groundout against Fargo-Moorhead's starter Brenden Heiss. His night ended after 5.0 innings, allowing a run off of four hits while striking out six as he secured his first win in a RedHawks' jersey. The Goldeyes scored again in the top of the seventh, this time off Correlle Prime, once again using base hits and stolen bases to cut the lead down to four runs.
The RedHawks struck back in the bottom of the eighth inning as Novak drew a lead off walk with a full count, B.J. Lopez singles to center field followed by Alec Olund getting hit by a pitch to load the bases with John Silviano up to bat. And with a full count, the designated hitter grounded out to the second baseman to score the first run of the inning. After Manny Boscan loaded the bases once again with a walk, Scott Schreiber hit a ground-rule double to center field to bring the game to its final score of 9-2.
With the win, Fargo-Moorhead secures the series victory against Winnipeg on the way to six straight wins and a 51-48 record. The RedHawks will wrap up the regular season against the Goldeyes on Labor Day, Monday September 4 at Newman Outdoor Field with gates opening at noon and the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
