Oklahoma City Comets News Release
(OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla., July 8, 2008) - The Oklahoma RedHawks will recognize The Children's Center this week during Wednesday's home game. Proceeds from a silent auction totaling $5,819 will be given to the organization at approximately 10:30 am on the field Wednesday morning.
Debbie Jones, wife of RedHawks' manager Bobby Jones along with other wives of coaches and players will present the check to a Children's Center representative prior to the 11:05 am game against Albuquerque on Wednesday.
"We are blessed to have such a strong sense of community within our baseball team and organization. The players' wives lead by Debbie and other RedHawks staff really stepped-up this time by presenting an auction with unbelievable items for a worthy cause," said Scott Pruitt, co-owner and managing partner of the Oklahoma RedHawks.
The silent auction was held during a RedHawks' home game on June 21st. MLB autographed baseballs and batting gloves, two Nolan Ryan RedHawks' jerseys and various gift baskets were a few of the items fans bid on. All proceeds will benefit The Children's Center in their efforts to purchase lawn equipment.
"This couldn't have happened at a better time. We needed a piece of lawn equipment to maintain our grounds at the Center and this money will buy it. We are thankful to those who generously helped raise the money," said Albert Gray, CEO of The Children's Center.
The Children's Center is a private, non-profit pediatric hospital in Bethany serving children with complex medical and physical disabilities. The RedHawks are home Wednesday and Thursday of this week before heading to Round Rock for a four game series.
