Iowa Cubs News Release

The Iowa Cubs used the long ball to defeat the Round Rock Express 8-2 at Principal Park on Tuesday night Casey McGehee extended his hit streak to 14 games and Jason Dubois hit his 13th homer right after Eric Patterson left the clubhouse in a six-man trade between the Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics. The trade was finalized just prior to the start of the game. Iowa's starter Justin Berg (4-4) picked up the win and helped his cause when he drove in a run in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice. Berg allowed three hits in five innings of work, while striking out five. Andres Torres led off the bottom of the first for Iowa and was driven home by Micah Hoffpauir's sacrifice fly to take an early 1-0 lead. Round Rock answered back, scoring two runs in the second inning on an Iowa error and sacrifice fly for a 2-1 lead. However, Dubois hit a solo shot to center field to lead off the Cubs' second inning and tie the game 2-2. Koyie Hill drove in Iowa's first run in the fourth inning before Berg added one more for a 4-2 Cubs lead. Josh Kroeger came in to pinch hit in the seventh inning and gave Iowa a 5-2 lead when he homered to center field. Felix Pie drove in Torres to pad the lead, 6-2. The Cubs added two more in the eighth when Koyie Hill hit Iowa's third home run of the night, a two-run shot to right field. Hill recorded three RBI on the night. Josh Muecke (7-6) was tagged with the loss for Round Rock, allowing four runs on five hits in six innings.
