Portland Beavers News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Dave Roberts was 3-for-3 with a homer, triple, double and three RBIs, and the Fresno Grizzlies overcame an early three-run deficit with nine unanswered runs over a four-inning span on their way to a 10-6 victory over the Portland Beavers Tuesday night at Chukchansi Park.
After digging a 3-0 hole, the Grizzlies overtook Portland (46-44) with a three-run third and eventually upped their lead to 9-3 on the strength of a four-run fifth.
Roberts, with the Grizzlies on a major league rehab assignment, also drew a walk and came a single shy of hitting for the cycle before coming out for a pinch-runner in the fifth. He tripled and scored in the third, hit a solo homer in the fourth and contributed to Fresno's four-run rally in the fifth with a two-run double.
Steve Holm was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for the Grizzlies (42-49), who have won three straight against Portland.
Despite allowing six runs and nine hits over 5 1/3 innings, Fresno starter Patrick Misch (4-3) picked up the win, his second over the Beavers this season.
Justin Huber was 3-for-5 with an RBI double, Craig Stansberry had three hits for the second night in a row and Brett Dowdy clubbed a three-run homer in the sixth and was 2-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Beavers, who out-hit the Grizzlies 13-12.
Portland's Wade LeBlanc (7-7) gave up eight runs (7 earned), 10 hits and three walks while striking out six over 4 1/3 innings for the loss in his first appearance against Fresno this season.
The Beavers and Grizzlies reconvene Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.
NOTES: Prior to the game, the Padres purchased the contract of Chip Ambres, recalled Brian Myrow and Joe Thatcher, and outrighted outfielder Paul McAnutly and pitcher Carlos Guevara to Portland ... Myrow hit a pinch-hit homer - his first in the majors - in his season debut with the Padres ... seven former Beavers - including all three players called up earlier in the day - played for San Diego in a 10-1 win over Florida Tuesday night. Former Beaver Chase Headley was 3-for-5 with four RBIs ... Will Venable stretched his hitting streak to nine games and has hit safely in 28 of his last 32 games ... Peter Ciofrone hit in his eighth straight game.
