Papillion, Neb. - The Oklahoma City RedHawks (26-36) recorded a season-best 17 hits, including four in a two-run 11th inning, for a 6-4 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers (34-28) before 8,615 Saturday night at Werner Park.
RedHawks reliever Fernando Abad (1-0) picked up the winning decision after a perfect one and one-third innings at the end of the game. Omaha reliever Blaine Hardy (2-3) gave up the 11th inning runs for the loss.
Omaha opened the scoring in the first inning off RedHawks starter Sergio Perez. After Lorenzo Cain was hit by a pitch, Johnny Giavotella belted a two-run home run to left field for a 2-0 lead. The Storm Chasers extended the lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning when Clint Robinson led off with his 15th home run of 2011.
Oklahoma City scored against veteran starter Jeff Suppan in the fifth inning. Brandon Barnes reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on a two-out single from Anderson Hernandez for a 3-1 game.
Omaha answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Paulo Orlando walked, reached second on a throwing error, moved to third on a fly ball and scored on a Perez wild pitch for a 4-1 Storm Chasers lead.
The RedHawks finally got to Suppan again in the seventh inning. Tommy Manzella reached on a fielder's choice before Oswaldo Navarro belted a two-run home run to left field, the 15th off Suppan in 72 innings of work, cutting the Omaha lead to 4-3. Reliever Brandon Sisk next allowed a Hernandez single and later a Robinson Cancel single to score him for a 4-4 game.
The RedHawks had bases loaded with no outs in the ninth inning against reliever Jeremy Jeffress. Brian Bogusevic bounced into a 1-2-3 double play before a Cancel groundout ended the threat.
In the 11th inning, Wladimir Sutil and Hernandez led off with back-to-back singles. J.B. Shuck next singled to centerfield to score Sutil for a 5-4 lead. Cancel later singled to left to bring in Hernandez for a 6-4 advantage.
The RedHawks bullpen of Danny Meszaros, Wesley Wright, Ross Wolf and Abad combined to allow two singles over five innings with two walks and six strikeouts.
