Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox fell to the Reno Aces 14-4 Saturday night despite two home runs from Josh Fields in front of 3,687 fans at Security Service Field.

After taking the first two games against the first place Aces, Reno battled back to dominate game three behind a five hit performance from Wily Mo Pena. Pena had RBI singles in the first and third innings and an RBI double in the seventh, finishing the night 5-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Trailing 4-0 in the fourth, Fields hit his first home run of the night, a solo shot to bring the Sox within three runs at 4-1. That would be the only run the Sox would score until the ninth inning.

Aces third baseman Cody Ransom hit his 16th home run of the year in the fifth to stretch the lead to 6-1. That lead would balloon to 12-1 after a six-run seventh inning highlighted by a two-run double by Mark Hallberg.

The Sox would tack on three runs in the ninth on solo home runs by Fields and Ryan Rohlinger and an RBI groundout by Alfredo Amezaga to make the final margin 12-4.

Starter Greg Reynolds (3-2, 6.98) took the loss for the Sox allowing six runs on ten hits in 4.1 innings. Reno Starter Barry Enright (4-2, 3.29) picked up the win allowing just a run on two hits in 6.0 innings.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Sox as they fell to 29-34 on the year. Reno improved to 37-26 with the win.

The Sox will look to win the series in the finale Sunday afternoon. Alan Johnson (1-3, 6.27) takes the hill for the Sox against Tom Layne (6-1, 4.62). First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM.
