Iowa and Round Rock Split Doubleheader

Iowa and Round Rock split two games of a doubleheader Saturday night at Principal Park in front of an announced crowd of 10,009.

The I-Cubs won game two as Bobby Scales connected on a walk-off single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to give Iowa a comeback win, 3-2.

Iowa went down early, as starter Marco Carrillo gave up a two-run home run to Chad Tracy in the top of the first to put the Express up 2-0. Carrillo, who was making a spot start in place of Casey Coleman, was solid the rest of the way, only allowing two more Round Rock hits in his four and two-thirds innings pitched.

Iowa got one back in the bottom of the second. With Scales on third, Matt Camp singled through the infield to bring in the run and cut Round Rock's lead in half at 2-1.

Iowa was then able to tie up the game in fifth inning when Welington Castillo hit an RBI-single to score Fernando Perez from third.

The game remained tied into the bottom of the seventh with Iowa looking to complete the come-from-behind win. Jeff Baker doubled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Round Rock then decided to intentionally walk both Bryan LaHair and Castillo to load the bases with no outs and bring Scales to the plate. Scales eventually worked the count full and then lined a base hit to left-center field on the sixth pitch of the at bat to bring in Baker from third and win the game.

Esmailin Caridad (3-1, 7.08) was credited with the win, pitching two-thirds of an inning with one strike out. Round Rock reliever Cody Eppley (1-1, 1.04) took the loss. Eppley entered the game in the bottom of the seventh and was unable to record an out, giving up the winning run on two hits and two walks.

Round Rock took game one 11-2, which was the completion of the game suspended last Thursday night due to rain. The Express led 8-1 as the game resumed in the bottom of the fourth. All Round Rock runs came off of Thursday's starter Alberto Cabrera, who pitched three and two-thirds before being relieved by Thomas Diamond.

Diamond remained in the game today and pitched well in relief, but the offense wasn't able to muster much off of the Round Rock pitchers. Diamond put in four innings and struck out nine batters, while giving up two runs on four hits.

Chad Tracy led the Express assault, getting the visitors on the board first in the first inning with a three-run home run. That's all the offense would need against Iowa as Round Rock reliever Mark Hamburger worked three and two-thirds innings for the win. Hamburger (1-3, 9.00) gave up two hits and one run while striking out three and walking two.

Iowa and Round Rock will play the final game of the series Sunday afternoon at Principal Park. Express LH Zach Jackson (4-2, 6.29) will face I-Cub RH Jay Jackson (2-5, 6.15). First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
