Tucson Padres News Release

One night after the first shutout in team history, the Tucson Padres were nearly shut out for the first time, falling to Las Vegas 10-1. The Padres lone run came in the bottom of the eighth inning, when former 51s player Jarrett Hoffpauir hit an RBI double, extending his team high hitting streak to 13 games. 51s outfielder David Cooper was 4-for-5, and is now hitting .400 in 40 games with Las Vegas.

The story of Friday's game was Las Vegas starting pitcher Brad Mills, who baffled the Padres through seven shutout innings, allowing only four hits, all of which were singles. Las Vegas was able to strike early against Tucson starter Will Inman, who allowed seven runs, six earned, on eight hits in only three innings. Former San Diego Padres infielder Craig Stansberry set the tone early, hitting a home run to begin the game for Las Vegas. The 51s scored four times in a seven-batter second inning, taking advantage of four hits, a Tucson error and a sacrifice fly by Stansberry.

Craig Italiano made his Triple-A debut for the Padres in the eighth inning, surviving a bases loaded, no out jam by allowing just one earned run. Greg Burke pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Tucson. It has been a lopsided homestand for the Padres - Tucson has won three games and lost three games, but none of the contests have been decided by fewer than four runs.

Next Game: Saturday, 7:00 pm - Las Vegas LHP Willie Collazo (1-2, 4.05) vs. RHP Jon Leicester (3-1, 5.22)

Tomorrow's Promotion: Salute to Law Enforcement Night. All officers and law enforcement employees get in free, while everyone in their group gets a discount.
