MEMPHIS, TN - Oklahoma City tacked on two runs in the ninth inning and held on to beat Memphis 4-2 Friday night at AutoZone Park.
The RedHawks grabbed an early lead in the second inning scratching out a run with German Duran knocking in Ben Harrison. In the top of the seventh inning Brandon Boggs' two-out double drove in a run to give the Hawks a two-run cushion before Memphis' Tyler Greene brought the Redbirds within a run in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run. The homer was Greene's and the Redbirds first of 2009. Joaquin Arias and Max Ramirez each knocked in runs in the top of the ninth for Oklahoma City. Bryan Anderson led off the bottom of the ninth with a pinch-hit home run and Shane Robinson singled to left to bring the tying run to the plate but RedHawks reliever Brian Gordon slammed the door shut retiring the next three batters in order to earn the save and hand Memphis their first loss of the year.
Thomas Diamond picked up the win in relief giving up one run over 2.2 innings. Oklahoma City starter Neftali Feliz fanned four and walked six over four innings. Memphis starter Adam Ottavino took the loss after allowing one run with three walks and five strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Gordon notched his first save of the year pitching 2.1 innings.
AutoZone Park will host the first fireworks show of the year tomorrow night with first pitch slated for 6:05 p.m. and fireworks to follow the game. Memphis will send P.J. Walters to the hill for his first start of the season to face Oklahoma City's Elizardo Ramirez.
