April 10, 2009 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
The Colorado Springs Sky Sox beat the Las Vegas 51s by the score of 5-4 Friday night at Security Service Field in front of 2,140 fans.
Both starting pitchers were pulled out of the game early. Dirk Hayhurst, of the 51s, lasted only two innings giving up three runs, one earned, on four hits, while Josh Fogg of the Sky Sox surrendered three runs on eight hits over 4.1 innings.
The Sky Sox came out the gates firing, scoring the bulk of their runs in the first inning. The Sox jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first with Mike McCoy leading things off with a double. Jonathan Herrera followed with a sacrifice bunt that caused 51s catcher, Raul Chavez, to commit a throwing error, in turn, allowing McCoy to score the Sky Sox first run. Matt Murton and Christian Colonel drove in the other two runs of the first, Murton with a groundout that allowed Herrera to cross home plate and Colonel with an RBI single. McCoy went on to finish the night going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
The 51s never scored more than one run in any inning, although they had many opportunities to produce runs on the Sky Sox, they were just never able to capitalize leaving seven runners on base by the end of the game. Shortstop, Joe Inglett, was the bright spot for the 51s going 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and one run scored.
Scott Munter (1-0) picked up the win for the Sky Sox in relief of Fogg. Munter pitched 2.2 scoreless innings with one strikeout. Steven Register shut out the 51s in the ninth and notched his first save of the season. Right-hander Bryan Bullington (0-1) picked up the loss after giving up two runs, one earned, over four innings of relief work.
Game three of the four-game series is scheduled for tomorrow at 1:05 PM and will feature RHP Jason Hirsh (NR) for the Sox versus LHP Bradley Mills (NR).
