TONIGHT: The RedHawks and Nashville play a pair of 7-inning games in a doubleheader starting at 5:05 pm CDT. Today's second game technically makes up for a July 4 postponement. The RedHawks took the series opener 3-1 last night to halt a 3-game losing streak. OKC and Nashville have split the season series 6-6. The RedHawks lead the American South Division by 3 games with 8 to play (counting tonight) with a magic number of 6. Omar Beltre starts Game 1 and Doug Mathis, on 3 days rest, is due to go in Game 2.
MAGIC NUMBER DROPS TO 6: The RedHawks' division lead returned to 3 last night with OKC's 3-1 win and Albuquerque's 20-9 loss against Iowa. The magic number for the RedHawks to clinch is 6 games. OKC and Albuquerque have each had their seasons shortened to 143 games because of rainouts and both will play 2 games tonight.
MAJOR INFLUX: Texas Rangers infielders Ian Kinsler and Christian Guzman are expected to make rehab appearances tonight. Each rehabbed at Double-A Frisco as recently as last night.
GUZMAN ITEMS OF INTEREST: Guzman played 4 games on rehab with Frisco (Aug. 27-30) going 4-for-13 (.308) with 3 RBIs. Guzman is on Texas' 15-day DL with a strained right quad and is eligible to be reinstated when deemed ready. Guzman, acquired from Washington July 31 with cash considerations for RHP's Tanner Roark and Ryan Tatusko. With the Nationals, Guzman batted .282 in 89 games with 2 homers and 25 RBIs. With Texas, Guzman has appeared in 10 games, going 3-for-34 (.088).
KINSLER ITEMS OF INTEREST: Ian Kinsler has been on Texas' 15-day DL since July 29 (retro July 28) with a left groin strain. He's eligible to come off the DL when ready. Kinsler played 3 games (Aug. 28-30) with Frisco in his current rehab stint, going 2-for-10 with 3 RBIs. Kinsler was also on the DL out of spring training for a high right ankle sprain and rehabbed for 3 games at Frisco in April. He spent the entire 2005 season with OKC, batting .274 with 23 homers and 94 RBIs in 131 games. He has since made rehab appearances for the Redhawks in 2006-07. With Texas this season, Kinsler is batting .298 in 76 games with 6 homers and 38 RBIs.
IRIBARREN STREAKING: Hernan Iribarren has hit safely in 7 straight and 23 of his last 25 games dating to Aug. 5. He's batting .411 with 5 homers and 22 RBIs since Aug. 5, holding the league's second-best best batting average in that time behind the promoted Micah Hoffpauir of Iowa (.417 in 15 games).
RAMIREZ RAKES: Max Ramirez has hit safely in 7 straight, going 8-for-21 (.381) with 6 RBIs. Ramirez has hits in 12 of his last 13, going 16-for-45 (.356) with 2 homers and 11 RBIs.
