TODAY: The RedHawks continue a 4-game series against the Iowa Cubs with a late afternoon matchup at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Iowa took a 1-0 series lead last night by opening a 10-0 lead in the fourth inning en route to a 15-7 win. The 15 runs allowed and 8-run losing margin were season highs for the RedHawks. Thirteen of Iowa's 15 runs were scored with 2 out. The Cubs had a 4-run first inning and a 5-run third against starter Michael Ballard. Iowa has registered a 4-run inning or better 5 times in the last 5 games between these teams. OKC leads the American South by 2.5 games over Albuquerque. Guillermo Moscoso puts a 2-start winning streak on the line as today's starter.
HOMER HAT TRICK: Bryan LaHair became the fourth PCLer this season to record a 3-homer game with his 3-homer, 7-RBI performance last night. LaHair hit two against starter Michael Ballard, a 3-run shot in the first and a solo in the third. His final homer was a 3-run shot off Clay Rapada in the ninth. Other 3-homer games this season were by Albuquerque's Prentice Redman April 18 vs. Omaha; Colorado Springs' Brad Eldred vs. Iowa May 23 and OKC's Chad Tracy vs. Omaha June 27. The last 3-homer game against OKC was by Iowa's Jake Fox at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark Aug. 11, 2007, when he went deep in the sixth inning against Eric Hurley, in the seventh against Randy Williams and the eighth against Steve Rowe.
RAPADA ALLOWS FIRST HOMER: Bryan LaHair's third homer last night came against Clay Rapada and was the first allowed by Rapada this season after 46.1 homerless innings prior to Saturday. LaHair's homer was also the first extra-base hit, and 10th hit overall, by a left-handed batter against Rapada this season. Rapada maintains the lowest opponents' batting average in the PCL among ERA qualifiers at .179 and the best ratio of base runners per 9 innings among PCL relievers at 9.13.
ERA LEAD: Despite allowing a season-high 11 earned runs last night, the RedHawks lead the PCL in team ERA at 3.77. The ERA jumped .07 last night. Tacoma is second at 4.00. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs (68) in Triple-A, but have surrendered 16 in 13 games against Iowa.
BROWN REACHES 15: Matt Brown has hit safely in 15 straight games, going 20-for-59 (.339) with 1 homer and 8 RBIs in that time. Brown's streak is the second-best by a RedHawk this year. Jarrod Saltalamacchia has the longest OKC hitting streak, 16 games, from April 21-May 11. Brown's streak is the longest active hitting streak in the league. He batted .339 in July, which spanned his return from the DL, with 2 homers and 11 RBIs.
GERMAN AT 10: Esteban German owns a 10-game hitting streak dating to July 9, prior to a stint on the DL. German has hits in all 5 games since returning from the DL on Tuesday. He missed 11 games with a strained left hamstring, with OKC going 3-8 in his absence. During the 10-game streak, German is 17-for-42 (.405) with 10 RBIs.
BOGGS UPDATE: Brandon Boggs raised his on-base streak to 30 games last night. The current streak began June 21 and is the longest active on-base streak in the PCL. Alex Gordon, formerly of Omaha, has the PCL's longest on-base streak of the season at 39 games from May 9-June 19. Boggs has reached base by hit or walk in each of his last 53 starts beginning May 24, the only break in the streak a strikeout as a pinch hitter June 19. Boggs is third in the league in walks with 65 and seventh in on-base percentage at .404.
DAVIS OPTIONED: First and third baseman Chris Davis was optioned by Texas on Thursday night, but has yet to appear in a game with OKC on his latest stint. Davis returns to the PCL second in batting (.354) behind John Lindsey of Albuquerque, (.380). Davis is eight in on-base percentage (.403) and 11th in slugging (.555).
