Rainiers Come up Short Against Reno

August 1, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers failed to find enough offense for a rally in a 3-2 loss to Reno at Cheney Stadium on Sunday.

Trailing the Aces by a run heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, outfielder Chris Woodward struck out with the bases loaded to end the outing for the Rainiers. The loss ends a four-game home win streak for Tacoma and evens their four-game series with Reno at one game apiece.

Reno took the lead in the top of the inning after shortstop Ed Rogers drove in Jeff Bailey from third base with a sacrifice fly to center field, breaking up what had been a 2-2 tie.

The Rainiers were the ones responsible for evening things up after Adam Moore blasted a solo home run, his third of the season, to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning. The blast was Tacoma's second trip onto the scoreboard after Dustin Ackley scored off an RBI-single from Woodward in the fifth.

Moore complimented his home run with a double in the ninth and ended the day going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Rainiers infielder Matt Mangini recorded a trio of hits with a double in the outing.

Reliever Scott Patterson was dealt his first loss as a Rainier after giving up the go-ahead run on two hits in the top of the ninth. Starter Yusmeiro Petit gave up two runs on three hits over six innings of work in the no decision, while walking one and fanning eight.

Aces reliever Jose Marte picked up the win after pitching a scoreless inning in the eighth. Carlos Rosa recorded his fourth save of the season after allowing one hit with two walks and strikeout in the ninth.

The Rainiers continue their four-game series with the Aces at 7pm on Monday night at Cheney Stadium. Tacoma is slated to send right-handed prospect Michael Pineda (3-1, 3.38) to the mound, with Reno scheduled to start left-hander Zach Kroenke (2-3, 4.48).
