TONIGHT: The RedHawks look to salvage a win out of this series in the third and final game with the Albuquerque Isotopes. Albuquerque leads the series 2-0 after a 5-3 win last night. The Isotopes also lead the season series 6-4. OKC's lead in the American South Division is 1.5 games over the Isotopes. OKC has had sole possession of first since a win on April 16. An Albuquerque win tonight would trim the lead to a half-game for the first time since June 12, during the previous series between these clubs. OKC has dropped 3 straight overall and 5 straight on the road. Guillermo Moscoso gets the start for OKC against rehabber Carlos Monasterios.
ROAD WOES: Since reaching a road record of 18-12 entering the previous trip to Nashville and New Orleans, the RedHawks have lost 8 of 10 away from home including 5 straight. In that time, the starters have gone 1-4 with a 6.17 ERA, pitching 46.2 innings while allowing 54 hits, with 26 walks and 45 strikeouts. The last road win by a starter was June 20 at Nashville, (Michael Kirkman). OKC has gone 7 road games without a win from a starter. For the season, the ERA is actually slightly lower on the road (3.60) than at home (3.62).
ERA TOPS IN LEAGUE: The RedHawks lead the PCL in team ERA at 3.61. Tacoma is second at 3.85. OKC has allowed the fewest home runs in the league (42), 17 fewer than the closest team, Tacoma. OKC has not allowed a 3-homer game this season, its high being 2 homers surrendered on 5 occasions including Tuesday vs. Omaha. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest runs (330) and earned runs (283) and own the best run differential in the league at +76.
PROVIDING MORE: Right fielder Mitch Moreland leads the PCL with 11 outfield assists. He also has a 16-game on-base streak. During the streak, which began with the second game of a doubleheader June 16, Moreland is batting .333 (18-for-54) with 2 homers and 11 RBIs, raising his average from .261 to .276.
FOLLOW THE LEADER: OKC has not had a lead for 3 straight games, dating to a 5-0 loss in the previous series with Omaha. The last time OKC led was following Kevin Richardson's ninth-inning, walk-off home run on Monday at The Brick.
OKC ALL-STARS: Three RedHawks were named to the original PCL team announced on Thursday for the Triple-A All-Star Game in Allentown, Pa., on July 14. Chris Davis was elected as the starting third baseman through the combined tally of media, field staffs/league GMs and online fan voting. Starter Michael Kirkman, OKC's top winner with a 7-3 record, was selected to the pitching staff. Pedro Strop, who tops the team with 7 saves, was also selected for the pitching staff but has been recalled by Texas and will be replaced on the PCL team.
PETIT PLAYER OF THE WEEK: OKC shortstop Gregorio Petit is the PCL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday. Petit became the fourth player in PCL history to record 2 grand slams in one game June 22 in New Orleans. For the week, Petit went 10-for-25 (.400) with 2 doubles, 3 homers and 11 RBIs. Brandon Boggs was PCL Player of the Week for the period ending May 2. OKC has had 2 pitchers of the Week in Derek Holland and Michael Kirkman.
