Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis rallied for four runs in the ninth inning to beat Round Rock 7-6 Saturday night at AutoZone Park in front of a season-high 13,385 fans.
For the second time in a week Allen Craig played the hero in a walk-off win for the Birds, this time belting a three-run homer to center field to score the victory. Craig's two-run single last Friday night capped a six-run, ninth inning rally that downed Nashville. Kevin Howard ignited Saturday night's rally with a double to lead off the inning and scored on Mark Shorey's pinch-hit single. After Ruben Gotay drew a walk it was time for Craig's heroics. Craig finished the night 2-for-5 and Jim Rapoport had three hits from the leadoff spot for the Redbirds. Memphis' rally ruined Round Rock's powerful night that saw them hit four solo home runs. Matt Kata hit two home runs for the Express in the loss.
Andrew Brown picked up the win in relief for the Redbirds tossing one scoreless inning. Roy Corcoran took the loss giving up four runs and recording two outs in the ninth. Memphis starter Evan MacLane pitched 6.1 innings allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits.
The Birds and Express head to Round Rock tomorrow night to begin a four-game series at The Dell Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with Lance Lynn going to the hill for Memphis against Round Rock's Sergio Perez. The Redbirds return home Thursday, July 8 for a five-game series in four days before the All-Star break. For ticket information call 901.721.6000 or visit memphisredbirds.com.
