RH Doug Mathis (2-3, 5.08) vs. RH Luis Mendoza (5-5, 4.18)

TONIGHT: The RedHawks open a 4-game series and homestand against the Omaha Royals. OKC returns home off its least successful trip of the year, going 2-6 in Nashville and New Orleans. Last night, Brett Carroll's seventh-inning homer provided the game's only run in the Zephyrs' 1-0 win. Michael Kirkman endured his second loss of the season against a team-high 7 wins as OKC lost for just the second time all season in a Kirkman start (13-2). The RedHawks have a 2.5-game lead over Albuquerque and 3.5-game edge over New Orleans in the American South. Omaha leads the American North by 1 game over a trio of teams. Righthander Doug Mathis gets the start for the RedHawks against former RedHawk Luis Mendoza.

STREAKS: The RedHawks arrive home having lost 3 straight road games for the first time this season. Esteban German enters tonight's game with a 7-game hitting streak, during which he's 9-for-26 (.346) with a homer and 3 RBIs. Clay Rapada pitched another shutout inning last night, upping his streak to 11.2 consecutive scoreless innings. Rapada has allowed just 3 hits during the streak. His opponents' batting average of .169 is the second-lowest among PCL relievers behind Portland's Ernesto Frieri (109).

25 ZEROS: OKC has not scored a run in 25 straight innings. Its last runs came in the second inning of Wednesday's game on Esteban German's 3-run homer at New Orleans. All 14 of the RedHawks' runs in New Orleans were condensed into 3 innings, so the RedHawks were shut out in 33 of 36 innings against the Zephyrs. The consecutive shutouts in the past 2 days mark the first time the RedHawks have been blanked in back-to-back games since July 27-28, 2005 at Tucson. In the past 2 games, OKC went a combined 0-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

HOMER DEPENDENCY: The RedHawks had an 11-game home run streak snapped on Thursday. On the trip that ended last night, 20 of OKC's 32 runs (62.5 %) were produced by homers. In the New Orleans series, 11 of 14 runs stemmed from homers.

BIG INNING-ITIS: On the just-concluded trip, the RedHawks allowed a 3-run inning or better 8 times, accounting for 26 of the 45 runs given up. OKC had allowed a 3-run inning or better in 4 straight games until last night. Six of the innings were 3-run innings and the other two were 4-run frames.

MORELAND WITH THE ASSIST: Right fielder Mitch Moreland collected his 10th outfield assist of the season Thursday at New Orleans when he threw out Cameron Maybin trying to score in the sixth inning. Moreland is tied with Fresno's Ben Copeland for the league lead in outfield assists.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH UPDATE: Chris Davis struck out as a pinch hitter last night, but shares the minor league lead in batting average this month (with New Orleans' Danny Richar) at .430. Davis has hit safely in 21 of 24 games this month, adding 4 homers and 15 RBIs. He's leading all minor leaguers this month in hits (37). Overall, Davis is tied for second with the promoted Buster Posey in the PCL batting race with a .349 average, trailing only Albuquerque's John Lindsey (.405), who has not played since June 6 because of a calf muscle injury.

ERA NO. 1: The RedHawks lead the PCL in team ERA at 3.58. Tacoma is next at 3.82. OKC has allowed the fewest home runs in the league (38), 12 fewer than the closest team, Fresno, and half as many as league-leader Colorado Springs. The RedHawks are second in strikeouts (558) behind Sacramento (561).

SCHEPPERS TO THE FUTURE: RedHawks righthander Tanner Scheppers has been named to the U.S. roster for the 12th annual XM All-Star Futures Game, to be played in Anaheim July 11. Scheppers, who began the year in the Double-A Frisco bullpen, served a stint in OKC's bullpen and is now being stretched out as a starter, is Texas' only representative in the game.
