New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The New Orleans Zephyrs' hopes of returning to .500 for the first time since April 24th were quickly squashed as three errors in the top of the first inning led to five Iowa Cubs runs, en route to a 13-2 Iowa victory.
Iowa matched their first-inning run total in the top of the fourth, as Brad Snyder and Marquez Smith each homered in another four-run frame.
Zephyrs starting pitcher Sean West dropped to 3-2 on the year after allowing 10 runs - seven earned - on 11 hits over 3 1/3 innings.
Mitch Atkins (5-2) earned the win for Iowa, surrendering two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five over seven innings of work.
Jason Dubois went 3-for-5 with five RBI and Marquez Smith went 4-for-4 with three RBI. Dubois, Smith and Brad Snyder combined to score eight of Iowa's 13 runs.
Hector Luna had three hits in the losing effort for New Orleans.
The Z's and Cubs return to action Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m.
