Today's Game: After a disappointing turn of events late in last night's game, the RedHawks will look to rebound when they square off against Salt Lake at 7:05 p.m. The RedHawks must win in order to ensure a non-losing series.
Last Game: Trailing 3-1 with two outs in the eighth inning, Salt Lake exploded for eight runs down the stretch and won 9-3. The RedHawks scored runs in the first, fifth, and six innings, and seemed to be in control of the game. Prior to the eighth inning, the Bees had recorded just two hits and none since the second inning. Brad Hawpe ended the hitless stretch with a game-tying two-run single, and Bill Hall followed with a go-ahead RBI knock. Salt Lake poured on five more in the ninth, including a three-run homer by Hawpe. RedHawks starting pitcher Jarred Cosart had to settle for a no decision after firing six innings with one run, two hits, and four strikeouts.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Brad Peacock will try and stop the team's brief losing skid...Peacock was solid in his team debut Wednesday against Tacoma, and he pitched better than his final numbers would indicate. He allowed four runs over six innings, but all the runs scored with two outs in the fourth following a critical and unlucky infield single...The six innings were a season high for Peacock, who did no go past five innings in five starts with the Astros earlier this season. He also did not walk a batter for the first time in a start this year and for just the third time in 26 career starts in the PCL...Last season while pitching for Sacramento, the Bees seemed to have Peacock's number. He went 1-3 with a 9.92 ERA over four outings.
Against the Bees: 2013: 0-2 2012: 0-4 All-time: 36-42 In OKC: 21-17
Dating back to 2011, the Bees have now won eight-straight games over the RedHawks...In four of the last six games, the Bees notched the go-ahead/game-winning hit in the seventh inning or later...The last OKC win was a 5-2 victory May 15, 2011 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark...Last season the Bees swept a four-game set at Spring Mobile Ballpark, winning a pair of extra-inning games...Four of the last six games between the squads have been decided by one or two runs...The last time Salt Lake visited Bricktown, the Bees won the series, 3-1 in 2011...With two losses, the RedHawks will not win the season series for the eighth time in the last nine seasons.
Eight Ain't So Great: Going back to 2011, the RedHawks have dropped eight-straight games to Salt Lake. Including last night, the Bees have overcome deficits in the seventh inning or later three times during the streak. The last time the RedHawks dropped eight consecutive games against one opponent was during a 10-game losing skid against Omaha July 9, 2011-May 7, 2012
Halfway to Halfway: The RedHawks have 36 games under their belt, meaning the season's first quarter is complete. Despite losses the last two nights, the team is off to its best start at the quarter-way point since 2000 when they went 23-13.
Oberholtzer Named PCL PItcher of the Week: Earlier today, starting pitcher Brett Oberholtzer was named PCL Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 6-12. Oberholtzer earned the award following his dominant start Friday against Tacoma in which he tossed 5.2 scoreless innings with one hit and a season-high nine strikeouts.
Start Me Up: Oberholtzer's award was only appropriate given recent performances by the starting rotation. Over the six games during the current homestand, the starting rotation has combined for a 2.10 ERA (8 ER/34.1 IP) and has allowed only 24 hits with 14 walks and 32 strikeouts. Four times the starter has allowed one or no runs.
At Your Own RISP: The RedHawks have held their opponents to a .167 average (7-for-42) with runners in scoring position over the last four games as well as a .177 mark (11-for-62) during the current homestand.
Kount 'Em: For the third time in six games during the current homestand, the RedHawks pitching staff registered at least 10 strikeouts. The recent run is a bit out of the norm, as their 247 strikeouts this season ranks 15th in the PCL.
Usually Safe After Seven: Last night marked the first time the RedHawks lost a game when leading after seven innings, pushing their record to 17-1. Only four teams in the league (Albuquerque, New Orleans, Reno, and Sacramento) have yet to lose when leading after seven. On the other hand, they are one of four teams in the PCL who have won twice this year when trailing after seven innings (2-13).
Running With the Pac: The RedHawks are in the midst of a stretch of 16-straight games against Pacific Conference foes, going 4-2 so far. Last season the RedHawks went 14-17 against the other side of the league, including an 8-7 mark at home.
Walk This Way: The RedHawks pitching staff tied a season high with seven walks last night. They have issued 13 free passes over the last two games, also tying their season high for most walks over consecutive games (April 23 & 25). However, one of those previous games went 15 innings.
Linsanity: Che-Hsuan Lin is 3-for-6 with four RBI in the series and is just one of two RedHawks with at least three hits against Salt Lake. His ninth-inning blast Saturday night was his first home run in over a year. Lin last went deep on May 5, 2012 while playing for the Pawtucket Red Sox in a game at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The dinger snapped a home run drought that spanned 405 at-bats.
The Runnin' RedHawks of OKC: The RedHawks lead the league with 55 stolen bases, including 34 in the last 15 games. They have swiped at least one bag in 14 of those games.
