Tucson Padres News Release
Rocky Gale's RBI single through the drawn-in infield capped off a five-run rally in the ninth to help the Tucson Padres defeat the Round Rock Express 7-6 Sunday at Kino Stadium. It was the largest ninth-inning comeback in Tucson Padres history and the first walk-off win of the season for Tucson.
After scoring the first run of the game in the fourth, the Express added three runs in the fifth on a Padres error and Yangervis Solarte's two-run double. Joey Butler doubled in a run in the top of the seventh and later scored on an RBI single from Jim Adduci to make it 6-0 Express. The Padres got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning with two runs highlighted by Dean Anna's RBI single.
Trailing by four runs heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Padres scored their first run of the inning when Daniel Robertson forced in a run with a bases-loaded walk. Brandon Allen followed with a two-run single through the right side of the infield to cut the deficit to one run. After a coaching visit to the mound, Round Rock reliever Cory Burns was called for a balk allowing Robertson to come home and tie the score at 6-6. Two batters later with the bases full, Gale sent a single to right, scoring Allen for the game-winning run.
Burns was charged with the loss after surrendering three hits, two walks and two earned runs in the ninth. Nick Vincent earned his second win of the season after tossing a scoreless inning of relief. The Padres have won eight of their last nine games.
