RedHawks Erupt Early in 11-2 Rout of Saints

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks erupted for seven runs in the first two innings and cruised to an 11-2 win over the St. Paul Saints Saturday in the American Association.

Fargo-Moorhead shortstop Zach Penprase was 4-for-5 with three runs scored including a two-run homer in the third that gave the RedHawks a 9-1 lead.

F-M starter Aaron Shafer (3-4) held St. Paul to two runs on six hits with six strikeouts and no walks in seven innings for the win. Kevin Fuqua and Tony Davis each tossed one scoreless inning of relief.

The RedHawks (21-20) strung together four straight singles to start the first inning, and back-to-back bases loaded walks to Ryan Delgado and Marcos Rodriguez made it 3-0 before the first out was recorded.

Jon Gaston hit a two-run double in the second after an intentional walk loaded the bases with one out, and Delgado followed with a two-run single to make it 7-0.

Ryan Stovall hit a sacrifice fly and Todd Jennings hit a two-out RBI single in the sixth for the final two Fargo-Moorhead runs.

Shafer struck out three straight batters after a leadoff double in the first. He retired 10 straight batters in the middle innings and set down 13 of the last 14 men he faced.

St. Paul starter Todd Mathison (0-1) allowed nine runs on 11 hits with four walks and three strikeouts in five innings of work.

Ronnie Bourquin was 2-for-4 with a double for St. Paul (18-21), Jim Rapoport had an RBI single in the third, and Tanner Townsend had an RBI groundout in the seventh.
