El Paso Diablos News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA- Freddy Flores earned his first win as a member of the Diablos and both Reid Fronk and Scott Clement hit fifth inning home runs as El Paso won for the fifth time in six games, beating the Sioux City Explorers 5-3.
Flores (1-2) got into some early jams but limited the damage and pitched five and two thirds innings of two-run ball, holding the Explorers to just six hits while striking out a season high eight batters. Flores also walked just two batters before giving way to a suddenly resurgent Diablos bullpen.
Kyle Cremers allowed just one run in an inning and a third while Tim Adleman continued his scoreless streak as a member of the Diablos by pitching a perfect eighth. Adleman has not allowed a run in his first five appearances with El Paso over a span of seven and a third innings. Marcel Prado pitched a scoreless ninth for his fifth save.
At the plate, the Diablos continued to attack Explorers pitching, rapping out 13 more hits to push their total through the first two games of the series to 31. Down 1-0 in the fourth, El Paso took the lead behind Uriak Marquez's RBI single and J.J. Muse's RBI double to right center.
After Sioux City tied the game on a wild pitch, the Diablos took the lead for good in the fifth. Reid Fronk led off the inning with his first home run as a Diablo to put El Paso back in front 3-2. Several batters later, with Jordan Marks on base, Scott Clement hit his second long ball of the road trip to make it 5-2.
Sioux City would draw closer with a run in the seventh, but Aldeman and Prado made sure the lead stood by not allowing a hit over the final two innings.
The only down side of the night for El Paso came in the fourth, when left fielder Brian Joynt injured his left wrist attempting to make a diving catch and was forced to leave the game. Joynt is the team's leader in home runs and RBI's.
The Diablos, a team with just one victory on the road entering the current six-game trip, have now won four out of five away from Cohen Stadium and have earned their first two series victories of 2012. El Paso will go for the sweep behind Reymond Cruz on Sunday. First pitch against Sioux City is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. in Iowa and 5:05 p.m. (MST).
