RedHawks Acquire Madrid, Sign Adam, Release Scarpetta

FARGO, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have acquired RHP Roman Madrid from the Texas AirHogs for a player to be named later, signed C Tanner Adam and released RHP Cody Scarpetta. Madrid and Adam will be in uniform tonight as the RedHawks open a three-game series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Newman Outdoor Field.

Madrid, 25, was 1-0 with a 0.68 ERA in 12 relief appearances for the AirHogs this season. In 13.1 innings pitched, he allowed seven runs (one earned) on ten hits. Madrid struck out 14 batters and walked 11. He is in his first season of independent baseball after sitting out the 2015 season.

Madrid was selected by the San Diego Padres in the seventh round of the 2012 draft out of the University of Central Florida. In three seasons with the Padres organization, he was 15-5 with a 2.67 ERA and 35 saves in 94 games. Madrid pitched 114.2 innings and allowed 42 runs (34 earned) on 85 hits. He walked 48 batters and struck out 122.

Adam, 27, is a former North Dakota State University catcher who was signed by the RedHawks as a back-up catcher for this three-game series. He currently plays amateur baseball for the Moorhead Brewers and works at CI Sport in Fargo.

Scarpetta made five starts with the RedHawks after being claimed off waivers from the St. Paul Saints. He was 2-1 with a 4.61 ERA in his starts with Fargo-Moorhead.
