WICHITA, Kans. - The Wichita Wingnuts erased a 3-0 deficit to force extra innings, but fell 4-3 in 10 innings in the opener of their series with the Lincoln Saltdogs Monday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Down 3-2 in the eighth, Wichita (40-23) rallied to tie the game. With one out, Leo Vargas tripled into the right field corner, and then scored the tying run on a Christian Stringer sacrifice fly.

Frankie Reed (4-3) allowed a pair of singles to start the ninth, but then got a fly ball and a double play to keep things tied. Clayton Cook (1-0) followed by retiring the Wingnuts in order to send the game into extras.

In the tenth, the first two Saltdogs (37-25) were retired, before a Dainer Moreira single kept the inning alive. Ryan Wiggins followed up with a triple to put Lincoln back in front.

The Wingnuts drew a pair of walks in the bottom of the inning, but Evan Reed stranded the runners to seal up his 15th save of the season.

Lincoln opened the evening's scoring, getting three in the third. Robby Kuzdale picked up the first of five straight singles to plate the opening run, with Luis Alen and Rene Leveret grabbing RBI singles of their own later to make it 3-0.

Those three runs were the only allowed by starter Tim Brown, who tied Jon Link for the team lead in quality starts by firing his eighth.

Wichita pulled two back in the fourth. The first two Wingnuts reached on a walk and a single, with both moving up on a ground ball. A grounder off the bat of T.J. Mittelstaedt plated Stringer, and then an RBI single by Matt Chavez brought Zack Cox around.

The Wingnuts and Saltdogs continue their three-game series Tuesday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Righty Alex Boshers (6-3, 3.19) will be on the mound for Wichita, while Lincoln will counter with fellow right-hander Matt Larkins (6-2, 2.52). First pitch is set for 7:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
