Memphis, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds and the U.S. Army have partnered with "Bronzes of the Brave" to host Military Salute Night on Friday, August 31 at AutoZone Park.

The night's celebration will center around the pre-game presentation of a bronze statue by "Bronzes of the Brave," being given to the family of a fallen Memphian soldier in Iraq. The statue will be presented to the family before being placed in the soldier's community following the event.

"Bronzes of the Brave" is a special project of The SSF, The Service Member's Stewardship Foundation, that plans to create life-like full size bronze bust statues of every fallen soldier in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The game will be preceded by a flyover by a number of restored WWII planes, along with a color guard presentation by the United States Army.

A United States Navy band will perform pre-game in the entrance plaza of AutoZone Park, as well as perform the National Anthem. Additionally, the Redbirds will have vintage military equipment on display, including WWII vehicles, in the entrance plaza.

The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown out by retired United States Navy Lieutenant Don Ballard, a 91-year-old WWII veteran and former Cardinals' minor leaguer. Ballard spent one year in the Cardinals' organization in 1939 after returning from the war, but left baseball to serve a second stint in the navy.

The Redbirds host in-state rival Nashville in the final homestand of the 2007 season. First pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m., with all pre-game festivities set to begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Redbirds are offering $5 discounted tickets to all military personnel and their family, available only at the AutoZone Park box office, located at the corner of Third & Union.

Individual game tickets can be purchased online at memphisredbirds.com, by phone at (901) 721-6000 or at the AutoZone Park box office.
