RedHawks Avoid Being Tripled Up

The Oklahoma RedHawks scored in the first inning for the second straight game as they defeated the Memphis Redbirds 5-1 Thursday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The RedHawks have won back-to-back games at The Brick for the first time since July 24th-26th.

For the second night in a row, Victor Diaz put the RedHawks on the board with an RBI single in the first inning, scoring Freddy Guzman. The RedHawks (61-62) scored two more runs in the second on three hits to take a 3-0 lead. Travis Metcalf led the way for the RedHawks, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Memphis (50-76) had the play of the game, turning a triple play in the fifth inning. With runners on first and second, Desi Relaford hit a ground ball to third baseman Brian Barden who stepped on third to start a 5-4-3 triple play.

Eric Hurley (3-6) ended a personal three-game losing streak, allowing one run on three hits in seven innings. The RedHawks had their starter make it through the seventh inning for the third straight game.

Randy Keisler (8-9) took the loss by allowing five runs on seven hits in 7.1 innings. The Redbirds have managed just two runs in three games.

The series finale is Friday at 7:05 pm CDT at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
