Redbirds Sweep Doubleheader at Omaha

OMAHA, Nebraska - The Memphis Redbirds swept a doubleheader at the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals) Thursday night in Omaha, Neb., winning 6-2 in game one and 2-1 in the nightcap to improve to 12-3 on the season.
Five of Memphis' eight runs on the day came via home run. Jack Flaherty tossed his first-career complete game in the opener, and four Redbirds combined to limit Omaha (3-11) to one run in game two.
With Flaherty's victory, Redbirds starting pitchers are 10-0 with nine quality starts on the season.
Game 1: Memphis 6, Omaha 2
Flaherty tossed a complete game and allowed one earned run on two hits with six strikeouts, and Wilfredo Tovar drove in a career-high five runs in a 6-2 Redbirds win in game one.
Flaherty retired the first 10 Storm Chasers of the game and then 11 of the final 13 he faced after allowing a two-run double in the fourth inning that plated two, one of which reached on an error. The only other Omaha hit of the night was a one-out single in the seventh.
Tovar's five RBI came via a three-run home run in the second and a two-run single in the sixth. The five RBI were a career best after 1,012 minor league games and nine Major League contests.
In addition to Tovar's two hits, Max Schrock and Yairo Munoz each had two hits as well for the Redbirds. Carson Kelly drew two walks and scored two runs.
Game 2: Memphis 2, Omaha 1
The Redbirds trailed 1-0 until Adolis Garcia knocked a two-run home run in the top of the fourth, which finished the scoring for the night and powered the Redbirds to a 2-1 win in the nightcap.
Four Redbirds pitchers contributed to the victory, with Edward Mujica getting the win with 2.0 shutout innings of work. John Brebbia picked up the save by getting four of the five outs he recorded via the punchout.
Memphis pitchers stranded nine Storm Chasers on the bases. In addition to Garcia, five other Redbirds had a hit in the game.
