Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (3-9) and the Nashville Sounds (8-6) took a scoreless game into extra innings, with the Sounds landing a 1-0 win in 10, Thursday at Principal Park. Both pitching staffs were brilliant as there were a combined 25 strikeouts in the game.

Iowa's scheduled starter, Luke Farrell, was a late scratch, forcing Iowa to go to the bullpen from the beginning. Alberto Baldonado made his first start since 2014, working 1.2 scoreless frames. Rob Zastryzny and Anthony Bass followed, combining to sit down 14-consecutive batters in innings three through seven. Justin Hancock pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth, before Cory Mazzoni took the 10th and was tagged with the loss after allowing an unearned run.

With a runner on second to begin the 10th, Slade Heathcott clubbed a single to put runners on the corners. The winning run scored on a fielder's choice from Anthony Garcia. Iowa couldn't make up the difference in the bottom of the frame.

With the loss, Iowa fell to 2-2 in extra-inning games this season and 1-4 in one-run contests.

Iowa and Nashville wrap the series with a 7:08 game tomorrow at Principal Park. Promotions include a 50th Season Calendar Giveaway and the first Firework Friday of the season. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
