Redbirds rally by I-Cubs

Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis used a seventh inning rally to beat Iowa 6-4 Wednesday night at AutoZone Park.

The Redbirds scored four runs on five hits in the seventh inning to claim their second straight game over the Cubs. Four of the first five batters reached base and scored in the inning with Tyler Greene's sacrifice bunt scoring the final run. Jarrett Hoffpauir led the ‘Birds going 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Micah Hoffpauir provided the majority of the Cubs offense with a three-run homer in the first inning.

Ron Flores picked up the victory with two innings of scoreless relief. Mitchell Boggs started for the ‘Birds and gave up four runs on nine hits over five innings. Hector Carrasco was pegged with the loss allowing two runs on three hits in the seventh inning. Iowa starter Jason Stanford allowed two runs on three hits in his five innings of work. Jason Motte nailed down his seventh save in his 61st game of the year setting a Redbirds franchise record for games pitched in a single season.

The ‘Birds and Cubs wrap up their series tomorrow night. Memphis sends Clayton Mortensen to the hill to face Iowa's Randy Wells. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m.
