Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Hunter Morris homered twice and drove in four as the Nashville Sounds handed the Memphis Redbirds a 7-1 defeat in front of a season-high 11,503 fans on Saturday night at AutoZone Park.
Nashville leads the season series, 4-3, and has limited Memphis to two runs or less in all seven games. Nashville starter Mike Fiers (1-1) hurled five scoreless with four hits for the win.
In his first game back since being activated from the disabled list, outfielder Oscar Taveras went 1-for-4 with a double. Third baseman Jermaine Curtis and catcher Rob Johnson each had two hits.
The Sounds scored a run in each of the first three frames against Mitchell Boggs (0-1) for a 3-0 advantage. Nashville scored its first run on a wild pitch in the first, and its second run as Boggs plunked Khris Davis in the back with the bases juiced. Ozzie Chavez's RBI double over the head of Taveras in the third gave the Sounds their third run.
Both teams traded runs via solo homers in the seventh, as Morris' first tater of the night landed into Delta Dental Picnic Pavilion. With two aboard in the eighth, Morris crushed a three-run homer to right for a 7-1 lead.
Johnson accounted for Memphis only run with his sixth home run of the season, a solo shot into the Redbirds home bullpen.
In his second start this season, Boggs was charged with three runs (one earned) on three hits, three walks, two hit batters, and no strikeouts in four innings. Left-hander Nick Additon worked 4 1/3 innings in relief, allowing four runs on six hits and a homer. Marc Rzepczynski recorded two outs and stranded three runs.
Memphis and Nashville wrap up their I-40 series with a 1:35 PM CT matinee finale on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Scott McGregor (1-2, 7.31) will face Brewers rehabbing left-hander and former Redbird Chris Narveson (0-1, 13.50).
