Redbirds Avoid Sweep

Memphis finally found their bats as they ended a 22-inning scoreless streak against Oklahoma and avoided being swept, defeating the RedHawks 7-6 Monday afternoon at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The Redbirds scored a run in the top of the first and eventually built a 7-1 lead by the fourth inning.

Oklahoma starter John Koronka gave up a two-run home run in the second to Ryan Christianson, and another in the third to Rick Ankiel. Koronka (0-2) took the loss giving up seven runs, five earned, in four innings. Memphis starter Mike Parisi (2-0) picked up the win pitching five innings and allowing four earned runs. Brian Falkenborg pitched two innings to earn his fourth save of the season.

Memphis scored seven runs on 11 hits including two home runs, a triple and a double. In the first three games, the Redbirds scored just two runs on six hits combined.

Oklahoma got a home run from Miguel Ojeda in the seventh to pull within one, but left runners on the corners in the ninth. Oklahoma (5-6) will play host Nashville Tuesday at 7:05 CDT, and Memphis (6-6) will travel to New Orleans for a 7:00 CDT game.
