GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Thursday added six players to their training camp roster, all of whom were assigned by the Detroit Red Wings: defenseman Kyle Quincey and forwards Matt Ellis, Valtteri Filppula, Jiri Hudler, Donald MacLean and Kent McDonell.

Ellis and Hudler are entering their third seasons with the Griffins after ranking among the team's top offensive forwards in 2004-05. Red Wings draft picks Quincey (4th round in 2003) and Filppula (3rd round in 2002) are beginning their first pro seasons in North America, while both MacLean and McDonell bring NHL experience to Grand Rapids.

These additions have swelled the Griffins' training camp roster to 35, including 17 players contracted to Detroit and three more to Grand Rapids.

Following a 6-2 victory in last night's preseason opener in Milwaukee, the Griffins remain on the road for tonight's tuneup against the Chicago Wolves at the West Meadows Ice Arena in Rolling Meadows, Ill. Game time is set for 8 p.m. EST.
