
Falcons Host Bruins Friday Night

GAME SETUP: The Springfield Falcons and Providence Bruins will each play their second preseason game tonight at the newly renovated MassMutual Center. The Falcons opened their 2005 training camp on Monday, September 26 and played their first exhibition game the following night, Tuesday, September 27 at "The Nest" falling to the Lowell LockMonsters 6-2. Rookie Zbynek Hrdel opened the scoring for Springfield giving the Falcons a 1-0 first period lead. Ryan Vesce added an assist for the Falcons, while goaltenders Jonathan Boutin and Gerald Coleman split the minutes between the pipes. The Falcons will conclude their preseason on Sunday, October 2 when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack at the MassMutual Center starting at 4:05 PM. Springfield opens their 2005 regular season on Saturday, October 8 when they host the Portland Pirates at 7:05 PM.
The Bruins head into Springfield having lost their first exhibition game 8-0 to Hartford on Tuesday night at Boss Arena in Kingston, Rhode Island. The Wolf Pack scored four goals in both the second and third periods. Bruins goaltender Mike Ayers started the contest stopping all seven shots he faced in the opening period. Providence will play three games in three days starting tonight as they conclude a home and home series with Portland on Saturday and Sunday.
FALCONS RE-ASSIGN 10 TO CHIEFS: The Falcons announced on Wednesday they re-assigned 10 players to their ECHL affiliate the Johnstown Chiefs. Springfield re-assigned Jeremy Downs (D), Doug Andress (D), Tyler Kindle (D), Thierry Douville (D), Brett Peterson (D), Steve Cygan (C), Paul Caponigri (F), Jean Desrochers (C), Jason Spence (LW) and David Currie (G) all to Johnstown and released Blake Bellefeuille (C) from his Professional Tryout Agreement. The Falcons remain with 32 players on their training camp roster including 19 forwards, nine defensemen and four goaltenders.
LIGHTNING RE-ASSIGN NINE TO FALCONS: Springfield's National Hockey League affiliate, the Tampa Bay Lightning re-assigned nine players to the Falcons on Monday, September 26. Ryan Craig (C), Andre Deveaux (LW), Brian Eklund (G), Mitch Fritz (LW), Jason Jaspers (C), Marek Kvapil (RW), Doug O'Brien (D), Todd Rohloff (D), and Nick Tarnasky (C) all arrived in Springfield this week. Craig led the Falcons in scoring last season collecting 27-14-41 totals in 80 games. Craig also led Springfield in power play goals last year with 12. Jaspers returns to Springfield for his fifth professional season in Springfield. The 5'11", 207-pound native of Thunder Bay, Ontario recorded 12-17-29 totals in just 48 games with Springfield during the 2004-05 campaign.
FORMER FALCONS WITH P-BRUINS: The Providence Bruins will head back to Springfield with several former Falcons on their roster including: Jay Leach (D), Michael Schutte (D), Eric Healey (LW) and assistant coach Rob Murray. Healey was an American Hockey League All-Star for the Falcons during the 1999-00 campaign, while Murray remains the Falcons all-time leader in games played.
