Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday assigned defenseman Jakub Kindl to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
In 25 games with the Red Wings this season, Kindl has accumulated six points (2-4-6), 14 penalty minutes and a plus-three rating.
Kindl will be making his second stint in Grand Rapids this season, having played in nine games with the Griffins following his Jan. 11 assignment and registered two goals, one assist (2-1-3) and 12 PIM.
In all, the Sumperk, Czech Republic, native has been a part of seven seasons in Detroit, playing in 273 games and totaling 68 points (16-52-68) and 149 PIM. Kindl has also appeared in 19 Stanley Cup playoff games with the Red Wings (2013 through 2015), registering five points (1-4-5) and 12 PIM.
Kindl has amassed 248 career games with the Griffins (2005-11; 14-16), notching 93 points (16-77-93) during that span and earning a starting nod in the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic.
Detroit's first choice (19th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Kindl is the second-highest Wings draft pick to ever play for the Griffins, behind only Dylan Larkin (15th overall in 2014). Kindl has made an appearance in eight different seasons as a Griffin, ranking second all time in franchise history. Travis Richards (1996-06) holds the record with 10 seasons of service with Grand Rapids.
Kindl also represented the Czech Republic at the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championships and made his men's national team debut at the 2014 World Championship in Minsk, Belarus, where he netted three points (1-2-3) in 10 games.
The Griffins travel to Chicago to face the Wolves today at 12 p.m. EST.
