Bears Summon Tyler Lewington from Stingrays

HERSHEY, Pa. - The Hershey Bears announced today that defenseman Tyler Lewington has been reassigned to the club from the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays. The announcement was made by Bears President/General Manager Doug Yingst.

Lewington, 21, returns to Hershey after a short stay in South Carolina. In two games last weekend, Lewington produced three assists and four penalty minutes with an even plus-minus rating. He has a total of six points (one goal, five assists) in 14 games for the Stingrays.

Lewington's time in Hershey was limited to 19 games due to injury. During his stay with the Bears, he has registered three points (two goals, one assist), netting his first AHL goal on November 27 at Lehigh Valley.

The 6-1, 197-pound native of Sherwood Park, Alberta played four years of junior hockey with the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers prior to turning pro. He has a total of 112 points (18 goals, 94 assists), 411 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus-86 efficiency rating in his 250-game junior career. Lewington served as team captain of the Tigers in 2014-15, setting career highs in goals (nine), assists (36) and points (45) while tying a career best for games played (69).

Lewington was selected by the Washington Capitals in the seventh round (204th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
