Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins dropped a 4-1 decision to the Hershey Bears at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza on Tuesday night.

Hershey opened the scoring 4:50 into the game when Scott Gomez and Nathan Walker combined on a criss-crossing play for Walker's 12th goal of the season.

Travis Boyd gave the Bears a 2-0 lead with a power play goal 36 seconds deep in the second period.

Riley Barber converted on a penalty shot 2:21 later, putting the Bears up, 3-0.

The Penguins' second line of Tom Kostopoulos, Sahir Gill, and Carter Rowney continued their scoring spree from the weekend before, combining for Rowney's 13th tally of the year. Rowney's top-right snipe brought the score to 3-1 at 8:45 of the middle frame.

Hershey reestablished its three-goal advantage when Liam O'Brien broke free for a breakaway and lifted a backhanded shot past Tristan Jarry, making it 4-1 at 16:32 of the second.

Denied on a series of shorthanded scoring chances, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was unable to inch toward Hershey's lead and a scoreless third period saw the game end with a 4-1 score.

Jarry recorded 24 saves in the loss, while Dan Ellis turned aside 26 shots in net for Hershey.

The Penguins successfully killed three of the Bears' four power play opportunities over the course of the contest, but were unable to convert once on any of their three man advantages.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, still in first place in the Atlantic Division following the loss, looks to bounce back in a three-in-three New England road trip this weekend. The Penguins' next game is Friday, Feb. 26 against the Portland Pirates. Game time at Cross Insurance Arena is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
