Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Dash were held to just two hits on Monday night, as the Salem Red Sox claimed a 4-0 victory at BB&T Ballpark.
Winston-Salem (30-32, 68-58) has now been held without a run for 27 straight innings. On the mound, Salem (36-27, 60-70) benefitted from a fantastic start by Jhonathan Diaz (8-8). The left-hander began the game with five straight hitless innings, and he racked up five strikeouts against two walks.
In relief of Diaz, Zach Schellenger and Rio Gomez combined to pitch three hitless frames to end the ballgame.
The Red Sox struck first against Dash starter Zach Lewis (6-7) in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs, Keith Curcio lined a single into center field. Then, Victor Acosta blasted a two-run homer down the left-field line to make it 2-0 Salem.
Salem added two more runs in the top of the seventh. Acosta led off the frame with an infield single. After a flyout by Jerry Downs, Tanner Nishioka bounced a double down the left-field line, scoring Acosta to push the lead to three runs. The next batter, Elih Marrero, reached on an error to put runners at the corners. Then, Grant Williams laid down a safety squeeze bunt that brought home Nishioka to make it 4-0.
By allowing just three earned runs across 6.2 innings, Lewis earned his second straight quality start. The right-hander struck out six Red Sox hitters against just one walk.
After Lewis left the ballgame, Andrew Perez tossed 2.1 scoreless innings with one strikeout. However, the Dash were unable to mount a comeback.
The Dash continue their series with Salem on Tuesday afternoon. Right-hander Jorgan Cavanerio (8-2, 3.03 ERA) will take the hill for Winston-Salem against fellow righty Thaddeus Ward (2-2, 2.36 ERA). First pitch is set for 3:36 p.m., and fans can catch all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App. Pregame coverage commences at 3:21 p.m.
Tuesday's game will be the first-ever 336 Counts Community Day, with first pitch at 3:36 p.m., free parking and discounted food and beer prices.
The series with Salem continues with Winston Wednesday, with $10 presale tickets and the Dash wearing their retro Warthogs jerseys.
