Jan. 10th Game Preview - Red-Hot Gladiators Host Solar Bears Tonight

DULUTH, Ga. - Winners of their last three games, and six of their last eight, the Gwinnett Gladiators willhost the Orlando Solar Bears at the Arena at Gwinnett Center Friday night for the first of two games this weekend, and the fifth meeting of the two teamsthis season.

In the last three games, Gwinnett has played the top two teams in the South Division, the South Carolina Stingrays and the Florida Everblades, and has defeated them by a combined score of 14-to-2. Meanwhile, Orlando has won three of their last four, and has not lost a game in regulation since December 28th.

The last time the Gladiators and Solar Bears met was on December 15th, when Orlando won 5-2 in Duluth. The Solar Bears currently hold a 3-0-0-1 record on the Gladiators so far this season.

Glads Notes:

Wearing Out the Goal Lamp: In the last three games, the Gladiators have scored 14 goals, while holding two of the top three teams in the East, the Stingrays and Everblades, to a total of two ... Saturday's 8-1 win over Florida matched a season high in goals for the team as they got their eight on 37 shots.

These Guys Are Good: In four games as aGladiator, Paul Karpowich has two wins, a 2.25 goals against average, and a.927 save percentage, while Brad Phillips holds four wins in six games with a 2.34 GAA and a .925 SV% ... Phillips picked up his first career shutout last Friday, holding the league's best team, South Carolina, scoreless on 39 shots faced ... Despite the offensive overload on Saturday, Karpowich actually picked up the first star by stopping 36 of 37 shots, including several from close range.

Super Special Teams: Opponents have yet to score on the power play against the Gladiators in 2014 as Gwinnett has killed off 17 straight opposing power plays over the past four games. Gwinnett ranks 5th in the ECHL, killing off 87.5% of opposing power plays. On the man advantage, Gwinnett has at least one power play tally in 11 of the last 14 games, going 11-for-41 (26.8%) over that stretch.

Staying Disciplined: Gwinnett is the third-least penalized team in the ECHL, averaging just 11.88 penalty minutes per game. Only the Elmira Jackals (10.63) and Cincinnati Cyclones (11.50) average fewer penalty minutes.

Streaking Glads: Alternate Captain Dirk Southern has seven points in his last three games (1g, 6a), and a three game point streak ... Forward Brendan Walker has a goal in three straight games, and has registered four points ... Evan Bloodoff has eight points (6g, 2a) in the past nine games ... Forward Bobby Hughes has a goal and five assists over his last seven games, and has a three-game point streak ... Josh Currie has at least a point in six of his last nine games (4g, 5a) ... Defenseman Daniel Spivak has finished a game with a minus in only six of his 29 games played this season, and hasn't gone below a -1.

Milestones: Joey Haddad will play his 200th career ECHL game tonight.

Snippets: When scoring three or more goals the Gladiators are 12-3-0-1 ... Gwinnett is 10-0 when leading after two periods.
