Eagles Shut Out Steelheads 3-0

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles (19-9-3-2) shutout the Idaho Steelheads (17-12-2-2),3-0, at the Budweiser Events Center on Friday night. The Colorado goaltending combo of Dustin Butler and Marc Cheverie blanked the Steelheads for the Eagles first shutout of the season. Eagles defenseman Kevin Young netted a slapshot goal from the top of the circle to give Colorado the 1-0 advantage 8:34 into the first frame. Less than five minutes later, just as the Eagles came off of a power play, forward Alex Hudson pumped the Eagles lead to 2-0 with a shot from between the circles.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second period however the Eagles were forced to make a change in goal after Butler left with an injury.

With less than two minutes left in the final stanza forward Kyle Ostrow cushioned the Eagles lead over the Steelheads to 3-0 on a breakaway to best Idaho netminder Pat Nagle. Cheverie held the Steelheads off for the remaining seconds of the game to hold onto the 3-0 shutout.

Cheverie and Butler combined for 17 saves on 17 shots with Butler making 10 saves and Cheverie turning aside all seven shots he faced.

The Eagles face off with the Idaho Steelheads, again, at Budweiser Events Center on Saturday, January 11. Eagles forward Riley Nelson and the starting goaltender for Colorado will be sporting special 2013-14 ECHL Fantasy Team jerseys.
