
Red Claws Add BC's Trapani, Villanova's Stokes to Roster

PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, today announced that they have acquired guard Corey Stokes and forward Joe Trapani from the Available Player Pool. Both are promising first-year players who have spent the early part of their rookie seasons overseas.
Trapani, 23, holds an Italian passport and played for Novipiu Casale Monferrato (Italy-SerieA, starting five), Scavolini Siviglia Pesaro (Italy-SerieA, starting five) and MarcoPoloShop.it Forli (Italy-Lega2) this season. In 10 games with MarcoPoloShop.it, the 6-8 forward averaged 5.1 rebounds per game while adding 9 blocked shots and 10 steals. Trapani spent three seasons at Boston College after transferring from the University of Vermont after an All-AEC Rookie freshman season. A two-year starter at BC, the Connecticut native averaged 14.8 rebounds and 7 rebounds per game as a senior. Trapani will wear jersey #17.
Stokes, 24, played for BBC Bayreuth (Germany-1.Bundesliga), appearing in 18 games and averaging 6.1 points and 1.9 rebounds before leaving due to injury in January. A New Jersey native best known for his three-point shooting ability, the 6-5 guard was a three-year starter at Villanova, averaging 14.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in his senior season. Stokes will wear jersey #12.
The Red Claws will play the second game of their final road trip of the season tonight with an 8 PM match up at the Austin Toros. The team will complete a two-game weekend set against the Toros tomorrow before playing their final road game of the season next Tuesday at Springfield. Maine will close out the 2011-12 regular season with three games at home, taking on rival Springfield on Sunday, April 1 at 5 PM and the Tulsa 66ers on Friday, April 6 at 7 PM and Saturday, April 7 at 7 PM. The Red Claws will welcome Maine's own Olympic luger Julia Clukey on April 6 while April 7 will be Fan Appreciation Night.
