New York Red Bulls News Release

SECAUCUS, NJ (Nov. 26, 2008) - New York Red Bulls defender Jeff Parke was selected by Seattle Sounders FC in the 2008 MLS Expansion Draft today.

Parke, 26, has been with New York since 2004, when he was drafted in the sixth round as the final pick (60th overall) in that year's MLS SuperDraft. The Downington, PA native played in 132 regular season games for New York, just two shy of the club record set by Mike Petke. His 126 starts in those matches also placed him second all-time behind Petke (129). Parke scored one goal and three assists during his five-year stint with New York and was the Red Bulls' 2007 Defender of the Year.

This season, Parke recorded 24 appearances, making 23 starts and logging in 2,025 minutes. Major League Soccer suspended Parke for 10 games (regular season and playoffs) on Oct. 16 for violating MLS' Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Policy and he will miss the Sounders' first four games of the season.

Parke was one of 19 players left unprotected by the Red Bulls in this year's draft. Each team was allowed to protect 11 players on their roster. Seattle, MLS's 15th team, was allowed to select 10 players today, but could only choose one from each team's unprotected list.
