Record Crowd Watches Toledo Win Conference in Overtime

(Toledo, OH) Defenseman Matt Caito scored 3:21 into overtime to lead the Walleye to a 3-2 win over Kalamazoo on Friday night. Toledo has an overall record of 47-19-2-3 and finished the home schedule with a record of 27-8-0-1. The win clinched the Eastern Conference for Toledo.

The 18th sellout crowd of the season (8,000) in 36 home games saw the Kalamazoo Wings strike quickly with a pair of goals on Jake Paterson in the first 4:45 of the first period. Toledo outshot the Wings 19-6 in the opening period but trailed 2-0.

Austin Wuthrich (15th) started Toledo's comeback with a turnaround shot past Kalamazoo goaltender Joel Martin at 6:50 of the second period. Vili Saarijarvi would send a wrist shot from the blue line past Martin at 8:22 of the third period for his first professional goal and tied the game at two.

The Walleye snap Kalamazoo's eight game winning streak when Josh Shalla led the rush up ice that eventually found Tylor Spink with a pass in front to Caito to fire in the game-winner. Toledo sent 42 shots at the Kalamazoo net while holding the KWings to 23.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced and his record is now 18-9-1-1 on the season. Toledo finished the season with 251,204 fans in attendance which is a new single season record.
